Microsoft is sunsetting Sunrise.
Today the Sunrise team took to its blog to announce the sad news that the calendar app Microsoft acquired last year will be going away as the team focuses more on the calendar functionality in Microsoft Outlook on iOS and Android.
The Sunrise app will be pulled from the app stores, and the app will completely shut down on August 31, the team wrote.
“No new features. No bug fixes. For us, that’s the definition of a lousy app and it’s not a user experience we want to leave you with,” they wrote.
The news won’t be a surprise to those people who noticed Microsoft say in October that “Outlook will eventually replace the current Sunrise app.” Those words came from Javier Soltero, Outlook’s corporate vice president, who arrived at Microsoft after the company bought his email app Acompli, which has since become the core of the modern Outlook on mobile.
“We’re hard at work bringing the magic of Sunrise to the Outlook apps, with all your most loved features — interesting calendars, event icons and calendar apps. We’re confident you’ll be able to find our special touch there too,” the Sunrise team wrote.
